In vitro fertilization treatment is a form of treatment that requires care.
In case of ovarian endometriosis, or endometrioma, popularly known as chocolate cyst, more care is required in case of in vitro fertilization treatment. There are several reasons for this situation.
I want to talk about the main reasons.
1-Generally, in case of chocolate cyst, the egg reserve decreases and this negatively affects the number of eggs collected during the egg collection process, which is one of the most important steps of in vitro fertilization treatment.
2-There are also publications in the literature indicating that chocolate cysts may negatively affect egg quality.
3-Another important situation is that the chocolate cyst creates difficulty in egg collection. During egg collection, if possible, the needle should not be inserted into the endometrioma, that is, the chocolate cyst. Insertion with a needle causes abscess formation in the eggs and tubes and in the abdomen.
In addition, since pain is prominent in some patients with chocolate cysts, we want to freeze the embryos in most of our patients after the egg collection process, plan the surgery, and transfer the embryos after the surgery.
For all these reasons, it will be in the favor of patients to have in vitro fertilization treatment performed by physicians who are experts in this field, that is, physicians who can perform advanced surgery, in vitro fertilization treatment successfully, and manage this situation in case of abscess formation.
