Pregnancy Symptoms
Absence of menstruation during the expected menstrual period is the most important finding that raises suspicion of pregnancy. Pregnancy can be diagnosed with pregnancy tests performed on blood or urine on the day of the expected menstrual period. Observation of the gestational sac inside the uterus by ultrasonography performed in the following days is the most valuable diagnostic finding for intrauterine pregnancy.
However, before this period, some changes or symptoms may occur in the female body, in periods when pregnancy has just occurred and pregnancy cannot be detected in the blood and urine. Most women can guess that they may have become pregnant from this period.
Below, I tried to explain the signs that may appear in the female body with the weeks of pregnancy. However, knowing how the gestational week is calculated will be the key to understanding these periods. When calculating the gestational age, the first day of the woman’s last menstrual period is taken into account. If a woman becomes pregnant during that menstrual period, according to the gestational week calculation, the calculation is made as if she was 1 day pregnant on the first day of her menstrual period, and as if she was 1 week pregnant when 1 week passed from the first day of her menstrual period. According to this calculation, a pregnancy lasts an average of 40 weeks.

Cramps and Spotting Bleeding in Early Pregnancy
In women with regular menstruation, egg hatching occurs 13-14 days after the first day of menstruation. During this period, if the cracked egg meets the sperm in one of the woman’s tubes within 24 hours, fertilization occurs and an embryo is formed.
The embryo is the first cell in human development. This cell begins to multiply rapidly and the embryo settles into the uterus approximately 3-4 days after fertilization. This corresponds to 16-17 days after the first menstrual day. During this period, mild cramps may be observed in one quarter of women. Spotting-like bleeding may occur. It is not a worrying situation. Sometimes women think they are menstruating because of this spotting. Mild cramps occur in approximately one quarter of women.
Menstrual (menstrual) delay
Menstrual delay is the most common condition in women and causes suspicion of pregnancy. Pregnancy tests performed on urine on the days you expect your period are very sensitive. It can detect pregnancy 8 days after the pregnancy settles in the uterus. However, the definitive diagnosis is usually made with a blood pregnancy test or ultrasonography.
Increased Body Temperature During Early Pregnancy
Body temperature increased by half a degree from normal is also an early sign of pregnancy.
Increased Heart Rate and Dizziness During Early Pregnancy
Between the eighth and tenth weeks of pregnancy, a pregnant woman may experience a slight increase in heart rate and a slight decrease in blood pressure. During this period, palpitations and dizziness are one of the most common complaints. However, women who have a heart-related problem during the pre-pregnancy period should definitely be examined by a cardiologist before and during early pregnancy.
Changes in Breasts
Breast changes may begin between the 4th and 6th weeks of pregnancy. The reason for changes in the breasts is the hormones that begin to be secreted in the body due to pregnancy. Breast tenderness, enlargement and tingling may continue in the following weeks. The color of the tip of the breast and the darker part of the breast, which we call the areola, may gradually become darker.
Additionally, women who had acne complaints before pregnancy may experience an increase in this complaint.
Emotional Fluctuations
Emotional fluctuations may occur in pregnant women due to the rising estrogen and progesterone hormones during pregnancy. Depression, anxiety and hypersensitivity are common during this period.
Frequent Urination and Urinary Incontinence
During pregnancy, your heart will begin to pump more blood than normal. This increases blood flow to the kidneys and causes frequent urination. In addition, as the pregnancy progresses, bladder capacity decreases due to the growth of the uterus and urinary incontinence or frequent urination occurs.
Bloating and Constipation
Starting from the early stages of pregnancy, the feeling of bloating can be observed due to increasing hormones. During pregnancy, the digestive system works slower, and stomach bloating and constipation may occur.
Nausea and Vomiting in Early Pregnancy
Nausea and vomiting usually begin between the 4th and 6th weeks of pregnancy. Its severity increases until the eighth week of pregnancy and then gradually decreases. However, some women experience severe nausea and vomiting and it lasts until the first half of their pregnancy. In this case, they need to receive hospitalized treatment, although it is rare.
smell sensitivity
In the early stages of pregnancy, there may be odor sensitivity and discomfort with certain odors. It is not known exactly how this situation occurs, but it frequently accompanies pregnancy nausea and vomiting.
Heartburn – Burning in the Stomach
Hormones secreted during pregnancy have a relaxing effect on the valve located between the stomach and esophagus. After this relaxation, the risk of heartburn and heartburn (reflux) unfortunately increases during pregnancy.
Pregnancy Shine and Acne on the Face
Increased blood volume and the effects of hormones can create a liveliness and pinkness on the faces of pregnant women. In addition, women who have had acne before may experience an increase in their acne due to the hormones secreted.
I hope your pregnancy will be healthy and problem-free. You hold your baby happily.
Stay healthy..
